Ul'banskiy Bay
Ul'banskiy Bay (Russian: ''Ul'banskiy Zaliv'') is a bay in the northwestern Sea of Okhotsk, just south of the Shantar Islands. It is a southern branch of Akademii Bay to the north.
==History==

Between 1855 and 1867, American whaleships frequented the bay hunting bowhead whales. They called it Mercury Bay.〔''Covington'', of Warren, August 16, 1855, Nicholson Whaling Collection (NWC); ''Frances Henrietta'', of New Bedford, July 7, 1857, NWC; ''Josephine'', of New Bedford, August 28-September 11, 1864, July 29-August 1, 6-11, 13-21, September 14, 1865, July 12-August 20, 1866, Kendall Whaling Museum; ''Java'', of New Bedford, July 5–20, 1867, NWC.〕 On July 9, 1855, the ship ''Washington'', of Sag Harbor, was damaged by ice and run ashore, being sold at auction for $400 — the wreck was still visible in October.〔''Mary Frazier'', of New Bedford, July 9, Oct. 19-21, 1855, NWC.〕
